SUMMARY:ACPA2GO: Disrupting White Noise: Challenging Beliefs About Race on Campus
DESCRIPTION:Disrupting White Noise: Challenging Beliefs About Race on Campus\n26 June 2026 // 2:00PM – 3:00PM ET\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join Zak Foste and Lauren Irwin as they highlight key insights from their new book\, Disrupting White Noise: Challenging Beliefs About Race on Campus (Harvard Education Press). Foste and Irwin argue that many colleges fundamentally misunderstand white students in two key and related ways: (1) White students are often treated as if they have no knowledge of the racial world\, and that they simply need exposure to new ideas and perspectives about race and racism. Such assumptions treat white students as empty vessels while discounting the lifetime of racial socialization they have experienced. (2) Many campuses fall short of disrupting white students’ pre-college racial learning\, but actually reproduce many of the same messages and contexts students experienced before college. Foste and Irwin spotlight key practices in spaces like housing\, leadership programs\, and classroom life to both illustrate these patterns and offer ideas for disrupting the ‘white noise.’ often reorganizes and extends it through everyday practices in spaces like housing\, co-curricular programs\, and classroom life. \n \n Register Now\n \n \n \n \n \n \nACPA Individual Member – $10\nACPA International Member – $5\nNon-Member – $20\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Presented by:\n\nLauren IrwinUniversity of Tennessee\, Knoxville\n\nZak FosteUniversity of Kansas\n\n \n \n \n \n \n PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES\n\nSocial Justice and Inclusion (SJI) \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n In order to qualify for member rates for an ACPA2GO webinar\, membership with ACPA must be valid through the scheduled webinar date.
