Staff members using a Curricular Approach first identify clear learning goals and outcomes grounded in the history\, culture\, mission\, and purpose of each institution. Then staff members identify student engagement strategies that can provide opportunities for students to achieve these learning goals and outcomes. Goals are sequenced\, pedagogy rooted in scholarship of teaching and learning\, and campus partners incorporated from throughout the institution. A Curricular Approach uses assessment to inform a process of continuous improvement. \nShifting to using a Curricular Approach is not superficial nor is it simply utilizing learning outcomes to guide programming. A curricular approach utilizes the 10 Essential Elements to think about student learning and a refined leadership mindset. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Institute Features\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				This learning experience is an institute and not a conference. Sessions are organized and sequenced to meet the needs of professionals and organizations at different places in their journey. Williams (she/her) is a visionary educator\, consultant\, and social justice advocate dedicated to creating spaces where authenticity thrives and equity flourishes. With over three decades of experience in equity\, inclusion\, and social justice work\, Dr. Williams has made an indelible impact on higher education and beyond. \nBorn and raised in Houston\, Texas\, Tanya found a second home on the East Coast\, where she has held influential positions at prestigious institutions such as the University of Massachusetts Amherst\, Mount Holyoke College\, and Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Her academic journey culminated in a doctorate in Social Justice Education\, with a powerful dissertation focusing on the liberation of African American and Black women from internalized racism. \nDr. Williams’ mission is rooted in a profound belief in human potential and the inherent beauty of our world. She approaches her work with unwavering integrity\, compassion\, and patience\, guided by the conviction that justice\, equity\, and love are essential for humanity’s success. This collaborative effort of our three Communities of Practice is positioned to benefit practitioners and scholars alike\, creating a space to share new knowledge frequently left on the shelf. \nJoin Dr. Jennifer D. Smith for a presentation that explores the lived experiences of recent Black graduates from a Midwest podiatric medical education program. Drawing from a qualitative study\, this research reveals how these graduates navigated the environment and succeeded; highlighting key findings that underscore the crucial role of both personal resilience and support systems in their success. Unfortunately\, most managers are not taught in formal education programs what they most need to know to effectively operate any given functional area. While several models for “good” supervision in student affairs are described in the literature (Upcraft\, 1988; Winston &amp; Creamer\, 1998\, Janosik et al.\, 2003; Stock-Ward &amp; Javorek\, 2003)\, none provide sufficient context to address the complex nature of higher education organizations or meet the goals and objectives outlined of a particular functional area. \nThe goal of this session is to provide a framework (and reference point) for new\, mid-level and senior leaders to create a strong internal infrastructure for any functional area they may oversee.
