Equity and Inclusion in ACPA
ACPA Equity & Inclusion Statement
ACPA – College Student Educators International actively promotes and recognizes principles of fairness, equity, and social justice in relation to, and across, intersections of race, age, color, disability, faith, religion, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation, social class, economic class, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, and all other identities represented among our diverse membership.
By appreciating the importance of inclusion, we acknowledge that the collective and individual talents, skills, and perspectives of members, constituent groups, and partners foster a culture of belonging, collaborative practice, innovation, and mutual respect. Strategic Imperative for Racial Justice and Decolonization
The ACPA Strategic Imperative for Racial Justice and Decolonization reflects our commitment to centering racial justice in higher education and student affairs. Our focus is on challenging systems of oppression and advancing equity through an intersectional and intentional lens.
Association Land Acknowledgement
Related to our mission of supporting and fostering learning through the generation and sharing of knowledge, ACPA-College Student Educators International acknowledges the land each of us is on today is the original homelands of Indigenous and tribal nations. We acknowledge the painful history of genocide and forced removal from these territories, and we honor and respect the many diverse Indigenous peoples still connected to this land.
ACPA Labor Acknowledgement
ACPA continues to advance equity, inclusion, racial justice, and the decolonization of higher education. We intentionally acknowledge the often-unseen labor that undergoes our profession and the institutions in which we work. Labor acknowledgments and commitments recognize the historical and ongoing contributions of those whose physical, emotional, and intellectual labor has built and continues to sustain the field of student affairs and higher education. This includes, but is not limited to, the forced labor of enslaved Africans, the continued underpaid and undervalued work of Black and Brown communities, the labor of immigrant workers, custodial and service staff, graduate students, contingent faculty, administrative staff, and volunteers whose integral contributions often go unacknowledged and overlooked.
ACPA understands that labor is not neutral. Who does it, who benefits from it, and who gets recognized for it is shaped by oppressive systems of race, gender, class, ability, and citizenship. We are committed to both honoring the legacies of past labor and transforming present and future labor conditions within our association and profession.
