Approximately 30% of ACPA members currently identify as entry-level professionals with 1-3 years of experience in student affairs work. ACPA created the Phyllis L. Mable Emerging Leaders Institute (previously the New Professionals Institute) to support the development of emerging leaders as they collectively serve thousands of students on a daily basis. This Institute includes several mentoring opportunities and one-on-one interactions with several of today’s leaders in higher education and student affairs as resident faculty and small group facilitators.

ACPA, It’s Your Turn to AskJAN: Job Accommodations Network

ACPA Members with Disability or Allies can ask the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) questions about job accommodations in higher education or student affairs. It is the leading source of free, expert, and confidential guidance on job accommodations and disability employment issues. Serving customers across the United States and around the world for more than 35 years, JAN provides free one-on-one practical guidance and technical assistance on job accommodation solutions, Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related legislation, and self-employment and entrepreneurship options for people with disabilities. AskJAN is funded by a contract from the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) (#1605DC-17-C-0038). Its development has been achieved through the collaborative efforts of ODEP, West Virginia University, and private industry throughout North America.

ACPA2GO–The Digital Divide

During the 2020-21 academic year institutions moved fully online as a response to COVID-19. This created challenges for those who were not familiar with technology. If one was unfamiliar with technology they only had one choice, figure it out. COVID-19 exacerbated the digital divide. In this interactive session, we will discuss ways to address the digital divide, recommended trainings, helpful tips and a live technology demonstration to support those impacted by the digital divide.

2022 ACPA/ASHE Presidential Symposium

The 2021 ACPA-ASHE Presidential Symposium will bring together higher education practitioners and scholars to reimagine, influence, and lead in what is new, what is happening now, and what comes next.

In this mid-Fall symposium, ACPA President Danielle Morgan Acosta and ASHE President D-L Stewart will continue the Presidential Symposium tradition of engaging, meaningful, and cross-functional conversation about key issues in higher education in this “moment.”

Panelists are higher education scholars and practitioners who are committed in their work to justice and liberation, and also to the ideas and principles of trauma-informed care: Safety, choice, collaboration, trust, and empowerment.

NextGen Institute 2022

The NextGen Institute is a unique opportunity for those who are interested in the field of student affairs and who have not yet begun graduate studies to learn more about the field of Student Affairs. In particular, the NextGen Institute brings together individuals from across the world to learn about the profession of Student Affairs and Higher Education, ACPA, graduate preparation, functional areas, and the core values that guide our work. This is an opportunity for the next generation of Student Affairs and Higher Education educators to meet and learn from current graduate preparation program faculty, NextGen alumni, and professionals with a variety of personal and professional experiences and identities from diverse institutional types and positions.
