OUR MISSION

The Commission for Career Services  seeks to examine, address, and impact the changing and diverse role of career services in higher education within the student development framework.  We achieve this mission through:

  • Recruitment, Retention, and Mentoring of dynamic career educators
  • Knowledge and Scholarship to enhance the field of career services.
  • Engagement through supportive on-line and in-person communities and networks of career services educators.

We have many opportunities for our membership to become more involved in our commission through volunteering. Here are just a a few volunteer opportunities we can offer you:

  • Annual Convention – review program proposals, staff our recruitment table at CelebrACPA, coordinate socials, organize employer and college visit

  • Mentoring Program – sign up to be a Mentee to support new professionals or help us coordinate the program

  • Webinars – present on a topic or help us manage our webinar schedule

  • Newsletter – contribute content or help us organize future newsletters

Joining an Entity through the ACPA Member Portal automatically identifies you as a member of that Entity! You will begin to receive Entity communications through their respective email listserv and have access to any resources they share!

  1. Login to your ACPA Member Account
  2. Click on Community Groups (Chatter)
  3. Click Groups
  4. Click Active Groups
  5. Find the entity you want to join and within that group, click +Join

Any ACPA member can become involved and there are varying levels of involvement:

  • Join our listserv (sign up under “my profile” in the ACPA membership area)
  • Attend our open business meeting at the annual ACPA convention
  • Review conference programs for the annual convention
  • Submit a sponsored program proposal for the annual convention
  • Host a webinar
  • Submit a proposal for a paper to be published on our website

Ccs Awards

Individual and overall commission awards nominations are now being accepted for recognition at the 2021 ACPA Annual Convention. Please note that you do not have to be a current ACPA member to nominate or be nominated for the below awards.

The Distinguished Professional Award

The Distinguished Professional Award honors an individual who has displayed exemplary service and commitment of time and energy to the profession and/or the ACPA Commission for Career Services. The recipient has upheld professional standards, models integrity, and holds the esteem and appreciation of colleagues, students and peers. Experienced career services professionals with two or more years in the field are eligible for consideration.

Rising Star Award

This award recognizes a graduate student who has demonstrated strong leadership potential and contributions to the career services profession and/or to the ACPA Commission for Career Services.  Career services professionals in a master’s or doctoral program are eligible for consideration. 

Commitment to Social Justice in Career Services Award

This award recognizes an individual, group, or department that has shown a commitment to social justice work in career services through education, practices, or programming to create more equitable experiences for students and/or colleagues. 

Innovation Award (Individual)

The Innovation Award honors an individual that has initiated and developed an innovative program, service delivery, approach, or assessment in career services. The award is based on creativity, student impact, and success of the program, as determined by the achievement of the stated program goals. Supplemental documentation and support materials (i.e. flyers, posters, or other program materials) are strongly encouraged as part of the submission process.

The Innovation Award honors a team that has initiated and developed an innovative program, service delivery, approach, or assessment in career services. The award is based on creativity, student impact, and success of the program, as determined by the achievement of the stated program goals. Supplemental documentation and support materials (i.e. flyers, posters, or other program materials) are strongly encouraged as part of the submission process.
