The CAE Directorate Board consists of a variety of people who are interested in assessment and dedicated to helping others in our field incorporate assessment into their practice. Each year the Directorate Board provides a variety of professional development opportunities to ACPA members and others in the profession, including an annual assessment institute, webinars, and written works. We are always looking for new members who are excited to spend time talking about assessment regardless of whether assessment is your full-time job or just an aspect of your job that you enjoy! We wish to attract nominees who bring excitement, talent, and expertise!

In this election cycle, we have up to 4 Directorate positions open beginning with the 2027 ACPA Convention (elected) and 1 Chair-Elect for the Commission (elected). The term length is three years for all positions.
Qualifications

Must be a current ACPA member or willing to join ACPA once elected.

Demonstrate skill and knowledge in assessment.

Show interest in and enthusiasm for assessment.

Willingness to spend an average of 4 hours a month on CAE projects. Depending on the project, some times of the year will be busier than others

May not serve on any other Commission Directorate Board during the three-year term of office.
Note: Current CAE membership is not required to become a Directorate Board Member.
Responsibilities

Be willing to participate in the development of CAE as a whole and support CAE-wide projects. This could include having an interest in presenting or writing about assessment-related topics. We seek to provide resources for both ACPA members and the profession at large

Be an active and timely participant in Directorate Board monthly meetings and other discussions (typically via email or virtually through web-based video communication)

Contribute and participate in the CAE Directorate activities as you are able (e.g. Socials at ACPA convention and new member onboarding)

Attendance at the annual convention is strongly encouraged, as it is the only face-to-face meeting time for the Directorate Board

Q: What is the term length?
A: Three years
Q: I’m not an ACPA member. Can I still apply?
A: Yes! You do not have to be an ACPA member to apply for the Directorate Board. However, if you are elected/appointed to the Directorate Board, you will be expected to purchase a membership (if you don’t already have one) within two months.
Q: May graduate students serve on the Directorate Board?
A: Yes! We welcome folks at all stages of their careers who are ready to have a leadership role in student affairs assessment.
Q: I would like to join the CAE Directorate Board, but I am not sure which position makes sense for me.
A: Please apply! The CAE leadership team will work with you to find a good fit.
Q: Do I have to attend ACPA Convention to be on the Directorate Board?
A: No – only the Chair and Chair Elect of the CAE Directorate Board are required to attend Convention.
